I RIDE - This is America This is Biker Culture - Get On * Hold Tight * Shut Up

Back in April of 2009, Daron Ker and Water Buffalo Pictures released I Ride The Movie. The documentary style movie is about the Most Dangerous Biker Band in the World, The Fryed Brothers Band. Harry and Tommy Fryed began their band nearly 3 decades ago. The movie follows their lives on the road showing them at the Easyrider Show, their own anniversary party, RIP's BAD Ride, The Circle of Pride Rally in Conesville, IA, and Sturgis.

Harry, Tommy, and the rest of the band tell their wild and crazy road stories. One of the best is told by Harry. It involves Tommy's legs being run over and a hippy bitch on his back. His animated spirit draws you in. You also see into Harry and Tommy's lives growing up and find out that their older brother Mark is the one that got them interested in riding motorcycles.

Throughout the film you really get a good sense of what the motorcycle lifestyle is really all about for the band and the people involved in their lives.

There are various outtakes of other bikers thoughts of the lifestyle, including the Hessians MC, Ghost Mountain Riders MC, Dave Nicols, Rhett Rotten, Miss Easyrider, and Charlie Brecthal. Pat Simmons, Willie Nelson, & Sonny Barger also make appearances in the flick.

You'll laugh at the Cunnilingus Yodel, sung by Steve "Beatnik" Werner. There is also plenty of Fryed music throughout the movie. You learn how the song I Ride came about. The story will tug at your heart.

I really loved this life look at the Fryed Brothers Band and the motorcycle lifestyle. I recommend this film to anyone who thinks they live or actually do live the biker life. You will laugh and you just might get a tear in your eye. I give I Ride 5 Chrome Stars. I do love those ODBs ya know!!!

What is your motorcycle club called?

Brotherhood of United Bikers

When was the first chapter started?

The first chapter began in 2005 in Suffolk, NY.

Why did the founding club begin their organization?

It started as a car club with a strong motorcycle division that broke off to begin a motorcycle club.

How many chapters are in Iowa?

There are currently two chapters. I am the President of the Ionia Chapter in Northeast Iowa. The other chapter is in the southern Iowa town of Chariton.

Tell me about the club and what you stand for?

Each chapter has its own agenda, we have by laws and standards to up hold, but we have the autonomy to take our chapters in the direction that best meets our lives. Our motto really tells it all.

Do you have any events for charity?

In 2010 the Ionia Chapter is working with town officials on a bike night, a toy run and a cancer awareness ride.

Does it matter what kind of motorcycle you ride?

All Iron is Welcome .

Are females allowed to join your club?

Yes, there is a NY chapter who has a female VP.

Do you prospect a potential member?

Yes, for 6 months and they must attend events.

Do you wear a vest and patch?

Yes, one back patch that shows our county or city and state.

I see you are the President of the Ionia Chapter. Why did you decide to join the Brotherhood of United Bikers?

I had become friends with a couple of the chapter presidents, and after awhile felt it was a club I wanted to be part of.

How long have you been riding?

Just over 30 years.

What motorcycle do you ride?

Have had many bikes 2 Harleys, 6 Kawasakis,and now i ride a 2003 Shadow Spirit and a 1100 xs Yamaha.

The Iowa chapters are new to the club and are looking for growth in the upcoming year. There are over 36 chapters and we are international with chapters in Canada and the UK.

Biker or not?

What makes a biker?

I read a lot of other people’s blogs and comments about what makes one a biker and what makes one a poser, or just a bike enthusiast.

I think the word “BIKER” and what it means is subjective to opinions.

The term “bar hopper” comes to mind right off the bat. Many times, I’ve read: not quoted, but implied, that if you have a bar hopper, and don’t go touring that you are not a true biker. I’ve recently read a post where the blogger himself decided he was not a biker, just a bike enthusiast because of the way he looked, versus the way one of his friends looked. To me it is more, how long you've been riding, how much passion you have for riding, how much burning desire you have to ride, even when you can't ride. If you get in a motorcycle accident, and live to ride another day, do you ride, or hang it up? When you see a bike, no matter what kind, is there a part of you that thinks, “That’s cool, I love it anyway”? If the burning desire to ride, consumes the back of your brain while you are doing something other than riding, and if every ounce of your soul says “I am a biker”. Well then my friend, in my book you are a biker. To me that is more of a biker than not. If you judged a biker by the way they look, or how often they “get” to ride, then you may as well judge them by what they ride, the color of their skin, the price of their motorcycle, what kind of house they go home to, Etc. Etc, Etc……

Re: The above statement about judging a biker by their looks....

Those who read my blog regularly will likely think of the fact that in the past, I have posted and criticized about some bikers looks, or the way they choose to dress.

I'm human. I notice this stuff and I never said they weren't bikers.

If you look like a dork, you look like a dork. Weather or not you are a biker, has nothing to do with what you wear, or don't wear.

I post this because, I do own a bar hopper, but I go for long rides when ever the opportunity strikes, and pay the consequences in lack of comfort. I do not do long tours. I desire to, but my family life and job at this time, limits this. I am actually planning on one for next year (ON MY BAR HOPPER). I've been in three motorcycle accidents in my 20 some years of riding, and two were pretty severe, and I still ride. I can't imagine not riding. I tried to give it up after my first accident. That didn't last long before I couldn't stand it anymore. For me life without riding is not a life at all. When I do ride, although not nearly as much as I'd like to... I'll be soaking it all in and think to myself. This is livin. This is what it's all about. This is why I ride.

They got to talking about what they got their wives for their last anniversaries.

The doctor took sip of his martini and said I got my wife a diamond ring and a Mercedes. That way if she didn't like the diamond ring, she would know how much I love her because of the very expensive car I bought her.

A new biker word to add to the dictionary

At a Motorcycle repair shop I frequent, there is a funny word that they use to describe making a bike look cooler than it already is, or is not.

.

The first time I heard it was when I had a stock Harley, and was in there looking at options to make it Bad Ass.

.

We talked about all of the things that could be done, and the list started, and the financial drain started as well.

.

So my New Webster's Dictionary word addition suggestion is:

coolify
Pronunciation: kool . if . eye
Function: adjective
Etymology: English slang biker giberish
Date: sometime after the start of the19th century
1: cool, or kool : To be lacking the stock motorcycle look:

2:To coolify, usually marks the start of ones financial drain , and loss of self-control.

A cool and calculating bike builder should be the administrator of "coolifying" ones motorcycle.
