The Norton-Hughes oufit now known as "LPD 1"
was raced at Brooklands by Pat Driscoll.
It was originally one of the official works Norton team, ridden by Bert Denly.
LPD 1 was actually the number of one of the engines. The machine here today presents owner , Roger Bird, says that this is the version that Pat Driscoll
and Bert Denly used to set 18 long-distance sidecar records
in october 1928 using a 588 cc engine.
de Norton versnellingsbak...echter hier met handschakeling.
("The Rolls Royce of Motorcycles")
Brough Superior is one of the most glamorous names from the Brooklands era.
Peter Lancaster's version is one with outstanding pedigree. Built by Freddie Dixon for the factory to break records, it was the first bike to achieve a lap of more than 125 mph at Montlhery, set a world record at over 129 mph at Arpajon in 1929 and was the first motorcycle to set a lap of Brooklands at over 100 mph with a sidecar. That record was never been broken.
LAST BUT NOT LEAST !
The Supercharged Triumph Speed Twin 498 cc 1938
In the 1930's, several riders experimented with superchargers
as a way of extracting more Speed from their machines.
Ivan Wicksteed raised the 500 cc Outer Circuit record to 118.02 mph with M.Winslow's 498 cc Supercharged Triumph Speed Twin on 8th october 1938* (Motor Cycle)
eh.. da's 188.83 km per uur!
Ivan Wicksteed was one of those riders. He fitted an Arnott supercharger to a Triumph Speed Twin and in 1939* he set a 500 cc Lap record at 118 mph. That record was never beaten because Brooklands closed. The Brooklands Museum wicksteed Triumph is actually a replica of the original, but sounds wonderful and is in every inch a racer.
*(1938 of 1939? >> ik denk toch dat 1938 juist is !?)
Uiterst slank & rank...
Het Speed Twin motorblok...
Old & Fast...very Fast!
also equipped with a pair of Brooklands Cans.
World Famous Record Breaker Sir Malcolm Campbell rides his 496 cc Triumph Speed Twin on the track during an interval at the meeting held on the 3rd september 1938.
(Motor Cycle)
Ik ben dus in goed gezelschap!
Daarom wilde ik graag naar Brooklands om dit "apparaat" met eigen ogen te kunnen aanschouwen en op vooral niet te vergeten de "heilige" grond...I' be back soon...
So Stay Tuned!
